Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used in the treatment of gynaecological problems for approximately 3000 years. The first recorded Chinese herbal formulas for the treatment of infertility dates back 2250 years. In 200 BC China had already formed medical specialities, with gynaecologists refered to as Ru yi (breast doctor) or Nu yi (women's doctor).
Fertility and TCM
If you are having trouble to conceive, you might have gynaecological issues such as painful period, irregular period, PCOS or endometriosis, or just tired and stressed all the time. In Chinese medicine perspective, infertility may arises from a number of factors, such as stagnation of Blood or Qi, deficiency of Qi, imbalance of Qi or Yin and Yang due to stress, life style, enviormental factor or aging. TCM is focusing to maintain the balance of Qi, Blood, Yin and Yan.
Extensive medical researches for infertility with Chinese medicine have been conducted around the world. However, because of the small number of Randomised Clinical Trials (RCTs) and lack of methodology in Western medicine protocols, the effects of the acupuncture and herbal medicine is not yet clarified. Further high quality clinical trials would be needed for understanding of the usefulness of acupuncture.
